  • How to become a member?
    To become a member, simply visit our membership page on our website and follow the instructions for registration. There will be a form below the page to sign up. Payment needs to be done right away.
  • What are the membership fees?
    Our membership fees vary depending on the type of membership you choose. Please refer to our membership page for detailed pricing information.
  • Are there different membership levels (e.g., student)?
    Yes, in addition to discounted rates for students, we have different membership levels available. Upon joining, all new members receive a recreational membership, granting access to free play hours on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and occasional Saturdays. For those interested in training or competitive play, there's an option to upgrade to a higher membership level, subject to availability due to limited spots in training groups or competition teams.
  • What are the benefits of membership?
    In addition to our convenient play hours located in the heart of Amsterdam, US Badminton Club members benefit from being part of a vibrant community of players, primarily aged between 20 and 50. Our club's demographic composition fosters a unique atmosphere, distinct from other clubs in the country. With a focus on young adults and professionals, we curate a dynamic community united by a passion for badminton. From post-game gatherings to exciting social events like trips to the Arcade, club nights, or outdoor activities such as beach volleyball and our renowned US Weekend in the summer, there's always something happening. Our diverse membership includes individuals from various ethnic backgrounds, (international) students, locals, and expats. We are an open and community-first club, welcoming members of all skill levels from beginners to high-level advanced players. Our training programs cater to both advanced and intermediate players seeking quality coaching, as well as beginners looking for fun and engaging sessions to improve their skills.
  • Does the club offer training sessions?
    Yes, we offer high quality training sessions tailored to different skill levels, for beginners, intermediate & advanced players in training groups. Each group has 1 training session per week.
  • How can members access training programs?
    Given the limited capacity of our training groups, new players start with a recreational membership. Aspiring trainees can apply for training, but acceptance depends on group availability, skill level, and other considerations, determined by the board. Training sign-ups usually occur at the end of a season for the upcoming one. Because of this, joining mid-season may mean spots are already filled.
  • Are there sessions for different skill levels?
    Yes, We offer training for beginners, intermediate & advanced players.
  • Who are the trainers and what are their qualifications?
    Our trainer for the intermediate and advanced groups is Joris van Soerland. A trainer with years of experience of training & coaching at the highest level of the sport under his belt. As well as being multiple times Dutch champion and an olympian in his prime. He can give training in a fun and engaging way for all players to bennefit. Beginner training will always be provided by an advanced & experienced player from the club. Beg Trainer for next season T.B.D.
  • Are there opportunities for members to participate in competitive play?
    Absolutely! We welcome members to join our competitive teams, providing an exciting avenue to challenge themselves against neighboring badminton clubs. Whether you're passionate about honing your skills and striving for improvement or you simply enjoy the thrill of team competition with a focus on fun, our club accommodates all types of players.
  • Does the club host tournaments or events?
    Yes, socializing and building connections are at the heart of what we do. Throughout the year, we organize a diverse range of social events, including trips to the arcade, pool nights, beach volleyball, and our highly anticipated US Weekend in the Summer. These events provide great opportunities for members to come together, have fun, and forge lasting friendships. Additionally, we hold annual club championships where members can demonstrate their skills and vie for glory across different levels and categories, adding an extra element of excitement and competition to our community and many more events and social gatherings organized by members within our club.
  • How often are they held?
    While some of our tournaments are a yearly highlight, we're committed to fostering a vibrant community spirit year-round. That's why we organize a variety of social activities and events more frequently. These gatherings offer members countless chances to forge lasting bonds and friendships, ensuring that our club feels like a welcoming and tight-knit family.
  • What facilities does the club offer?
    At US Badminton, we play at three convenient locations. Amstelcampus hosts Monday and occasional on Saturday sessions, complete with a cozy café. Wednesdays are at Science Park, a large complex offering sports facilities and a sauna, with post-play gatherings at the onsite restaurant/café. Fridays, we utilize a new hall near a high school, with a café just across the road for refreshments after play. Each venue has room up to 9 badminton courts, dressing rooms, lockers and nice warm showers.
  • Are there courts available for booking?
    No, we do not offer rental or court booking services as our club is exclusively for members. All our members have access to the courts during fixed sessions. Individuals seeking court bookings or rentals are advised to explore alternative options elswhere. For those interested in joining our club, we offer membership and a maximum of two trial sessions for those who aren't sure yet. (1x Monday/ 1X Friday)
  • What are the hours of operation?
    For scheduled session times or events, please refer to the homepage calendar, our emails, or the newsroom WhatsApp chat where all planned sessions are listed or communicated. We have fixed playing times on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with occasional sessions on Saturdays. Please note that we are a member-only club, and non-members are not permitted to play unless they have a trial appointment. However, spectators are welcome to watch.
  • Is equipment provided or do members need to bring their own?
    For new players and trial members, we offer basic rackets for borrowing. However, all members are expected to invest in their own equipment once they've settled in. An essential point to remember concerns footwear: Indoor, non-marking shoes are mandatory. Running shoes, outdoor footwear, and dirty shoes(worn outside) are not permitted. Additionally, shoes with black soles are strictly prohibited. Proper footwear is crucial for safety & cleaniness. We check this every session and players wearing wrong footwear will be sent away.
  • What is the club's policy on cancellations or refunds?
    Our club offers seasonal memberships from September to June, with no refunds once activated. To discontinue membership for the following season, players must notify us before the July 1st deadline; otherwise, they're committed to the upcoming season's fees. We send reminders to keep members informed. Those joining mid-season from March onwards receive a 50% discount for the current season and pay a non-refundable €100 advance payment toward the next season. The €100 will be deducted from next season fee.
  • Are there refunds available for unused portions of membership fees?
    We offer full-season memberships exclusively. Players joining mid-season from March receive a 50% discount, along with a €100,- advance payment for the next season. Please note that we do not offer any other discounts or refunds, except in exceptional circumstances, which are subject to the board's decision.
  • Are there penalties for early termination of membership?
    We do not offer refunds. Once a membership application is processed or members miss the cancellation deadline for the upcoming season, fees are collected and refunds are not possible.
  • What are the club's policies regarding conduct and sportsmanship?
    Our club promotes a culture of respect, sportsmanship, and fair play. Members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects these values at all times.
  • Are there rules for attire or equipment usage?
    Players are expected to wear appropriate sports clothing. For new players and trial members, we offer basic rackets for borrowing.     Absolutely! While our name may be US Badminton "Club," our Dutch name, "Badminton Vereniging US" (Vereniging meaning: Union), more accurately reflects our nature as a union. This means that everything we do is driven by volunteers. Our entire club operates on a community-driven basis, where all members are encouraged to engage, assist, and contribute. Whether it's organizing activities, serving on the board, or brainstorming solutions to challenges, every member has the opportunity to play a role in our community. We take pride in being a non-profit, community-made club, where any fees collected are reinvested back into the club for the benefit of all members. However, we understand that not everyone has the time to volunteer, and members who choose not to volunteer are still warmly welcomed, as we all lead busy lives.
  • How does the club engage with it's members?
    While the board makes decisions, members stay informed via email and WhatsApp for more immediate concerns. We hold a General Member Assembly once or twice a year for updates and feedback. Members can ask questions and provide input. For important decisions, we may seek feedback through online forms or at the Assembly.
  • Is there a process for providing feedback or sharing suggestions?
    Any feedback or suggestions can be shared with the board. Either face to face, by email or during one of the General Board Assembly moments. Board email contact info is found in the "about us" section.
  • How can members get in touch with the club for inquiries or assistance?
